Drive systems are more commonly being configured with a common DC bus; for good reason. Common DC bus configurations create advantages including cost savings, greater efficiency, and a more versitle system design.

There are multiple methods of creating a common bus systems. One method is the use of a rectifier that supplies DC power to all of the drives instead of individual rectifiers for each drive. Bonitron has 3 solutions for this method:

In most common DC bus applications, costs are lowered due to sharing of power among the drives. For example, not all drives may be motoring at the same time, which will reduce the need for excess braking, power supply, or other such components.

Another alternative is the use of steering or isolation diodes. Bonitron has diodes that allow your drives to share regenerative energy on a common bus (M3345CBM), or isolate the drives seperately (M3345D).

Bonitron common DC bus configuration accessories work with drive systems with DC bus connections.

M3712 Single Phase AC Power Supply The M3712 is a low cost solution for powering 3-phase AC variable frequency drives (VFDs) from a single phase source. When used in conjunction with a VFD, Bonitron M3712 Single Phase Power Supplies have the same great advantages of a 3-phase control without oversizing either the VFD or motor. The M3712 protects your drive from the high ripple currents caused by single phase operation, allows your drive to run cooler, and extends the life of your drive!

M3713DM 3-Phase DC Bus Supply Bridge The M3713DM, DC Bus Supply is a six pulse diode bridge that can serve as the main power supply for your common bus DC systems. Multiple M3713DM’s can be used in parallel to allow higher output for high power applications for redundancy and process reliability. No precharge.

M3713SC M3713SC 3-Phase DC Bus Supply with Pre-charge The M3713 is a non-regenerative 3-phase power supply for use as the main power supply for a common DC bus drive system. The drives can be either servo or variable frequency drives intended for use in common bus systems. The M3713 has a selectable start-up current limit which is rated at approximately 20% of the full load rating for pre-charging the VFD bus. The M3713SC includes precharge.

M3345CBM M3345CBM Common Bus Module Common bus systems with more than one power supply or input bridge can have circulating currents that cause overheating and drive faults. The M3345CBM allows more than one AC bridge to share on a common bus through back to back diodes, giving the advantages of power sharing between drives, while isolating the input bridges. This allows standard drives to be used in common bus systems without a single input supply.
  • Up to 200A
  • Prevents circulating currents in parallel bridges
  • Allows the use of one Ride-Thru, Braking, or Regen module with multiple drives
M3345D Diode Sharing Modules

M3345D Diode Sharing Modules provide blocking diodes that isolate the drives from each other while still establishing a shared, common regen or braking bus. This eliminates problems encountered with the older approaches.

  • Parallel for additional branches
  • Diode isolation protects individual drives
M3612RC Common Bus Snubber
The M3612RC Common Bus Snubber is a high frequency filter that limits spikes and ringing in DC bus systems caused by inverter switching, supply noise, bus reactance, and other sources. Limiting these spikes protects attached drives and power supplies, preventing premature failure.
  • Limit Spikes
M3612EC DC Bus FIlter Capacitor The M3612EC is a filter capacitor bank for a common DC bus drive systems. The drives can be either servo or variable frequency drives intended for use with common bus
capacitors.
