The need for regenerated voltage control occurs in applications where the speed of the AC motor exceeds that of its variable frequency drive (VFD). In these cases, the motor acts as a generator. The energy generated by the motor must be dissipated as heat or returned to the power line. If this energy is not controlled, the drive may trip on an overvoltage condition, the energy may be dissipated as heat in the motor, or the motor may run with an excessively high Volt/Hertz ratio. Either situation can cause extensive damage to the costly motors and result in loss of materials and stops in production.

Bonitron Braking Transistors are used with AC drives to allow full power braking and eliminate overvoltage faults. This permits controlled braking and dramatically shortens motor stopping time. Our transistors monitor the DC bus, and if overvoltage occurs, the Bonitron Transistor shunts the excess energy through a resistive load bank to prevent overvoltage faults. M3452 Complete Braking Kit Like separate transistor and resistor options, the M3452 Complete Braking Kit works with VFDs to monitor the DC bus. If overvoltage occurs, the M3452 Complete Braking Kit shunts the excess energy through an internal braking resistor to prevent overvoltage faults. Since the resistor is already installed internally, installation time is reduced, while production uptime is increased.
  • Up to 43hp
  • Up to 20% duty
  • Convenient enclosure
  • Quick installation
Type-1  M3345 Line Regeneration Module

The M3345 Line Regeneration Module is ideal for applications with extended braking times or where frequent regeneration occurs. If an overvoltage condition occurs, the M3345 returns regenerative energy back to the AC line. This method produces much less heat than a typical transistor/resistor solution and has a much smaller footprint. Substantial energy savings result as the regenerated energy can now be used to power other equipment and the cooling requirements for the control room are reduced.

Two enclosure style options allow the versitility of a small footprint, integratable Type-1 or more environment protection in a Type-13.

  • Prevent overvoltage faults
  • Up to 120A per unit
  • Up to 100% continuous duty
  • Type-1 or Type-13 enclosure
  • Quick installation

M3539 M3539 Bi-Directional DC Motor Field Protector

The M3539 protects devices connected to the DC bus. If the DC bus voltage reaches a predetermined point, such as 1500VDC, the M3539 SCRs will limit the voltage from going any higher and shunt the energy through the field resistance.

Once the current drops below the M3539 SCR threshold, the unit turns off and prepares for the next spike. Multiple SCRs allow parallel load resistor connections.

  • Up to 1500VDC / Up to 1800A
  • Simple integration
  • Protect devices connected to the DC bus from high DC bus voltage
M3345CBM M3500DB Dynamic Safety Brake The standard M3500DB provides resistive E-stop braking control for servo motion systems and conforms to category II safety requirements per EN-954. The M3500DB4 incorporates redundant, positive guided contactors to satisfy category IV safety requirements per EN-954. The M3500DB is the secondary brake and will stop the motor in case of motion controller or power failure, as well as isolate the motor from its power source once it is stopped to ensure personal safety.
  • Up to 150A
  • Increased safety - EN-954 Class I or II
  • For servo motion control systems
  • Simple installation
