As ultracapacitors age, their ESR rises and their capacitance drops significantly below their original specification. These capacitors typically need replacement to avoid process failure. Measuring the capacitance and ESR helps determine when these capacitors reach EOL (end of life), avoiding both process failure and expensive, unnecessary preemptive replacement.
The Bonitron M3628PUT allows the user to charge a capacitor or bank to a specified voltage, and then discharge the bank. The display will then show the calculated capacitance and ESR of the bank. The unit also performs automated capacitor forming profiles, allowing capacitors to be brought out of long-term storage and into service. |
